The Mystery, The Master Musician, And The Man: The Weeknd!

His new album ‘Star Boy’ is breaking records left and right! During its first week, the album was streamed 400 million times across the world. This includes reports from Spotify, Apple Music, and other music streaming platforms. (Source)

The Weeknd might be new to the mainstream pop music success, but he is no stranger to making music that strums at heartstrings with dark, dungy and haunting beats and lyrics that have listeners addicted. No wonder he lets his music do most of the talking!

He Is Not Your Run-Of-The-Mill Pop Star!

He has almost stealth-like capabilities of avoiding the press, however with this release of his second pop album he is warming up to the idea of doing interviews. But the man still remains a mystery to many of his fans. And his drug-tinged, manic-depressive, openly misogynistic songs add more ambiguity to the mix!
The air of mystery is intentional. But doesn’t it contradict with his Celebrities Galore profile, where it says that he is “Always seeking the forefront and the limelight…”?
Yes and no!
In his interviews, the 26 year old singer, songwriter has openly admitted to being dissatisfied with how he looked in pictures. That’s why he preferred setting his music videos to hot girls, and seldom if ever starred in them. This gave birth to the whole mysterious artist thing, and he ran with it!
However rest assured that The Weeknd was born to be star, he wants to be a star, and doesn’t plan to live in obscurity any longer!

The Master Musician

As a lyricist, he is truly gifted. His ability to casually use  expletives in his material rivals that of Snoop Dogg. The way he mines his life and personal experiences for material leaves Taylor Swift in his dust. And he has a Bruce Springsteen like talent for weaving visions and expressions into a song. So his profile is spot on when it states that, “The Weeknd is exceptionally creative and original and possesses a touch of the unusual.” And to top it all off, his songs show-off a disturbing yet alluring sexual confidence that leaves listeners in awe of the narrative persona.
But at the end of it all, love is ‘pointless’ for the Weeknd. And the singer comes off as a brilliant yet ruthless charmer. At least, in his music the Weeknd as appears to be a very difficult man, to say the least!

Abel Tesfaye: The Person behind The Persona

While drugs, drinking and promiscuity are central to his theme, Abel always assures his interviews that he prefers “everything in moderation.” These are only the fuel for inspiration, and the subject matter.
Abel Tesfaye is Canadian-Ethiopian. He grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, as the only child of Ethiopian immigrants who separated a few years after he was born. While his mother worked several jobs to make ends meet, his grand ma helped bring him up. He left Toronto at the age of 21 with a friend, lived a life of drugs and parties, and discovered his knack for creating music.
And when he decided to release his mix tapes on YouTube under the pseudonym The Weeknd, a star was born!
The Weeknd’s Celebrities Galore Profile succinctly states that, “He is very concerned with his status and fosters the appearance of success and self-satisfaction. The need to appear well off propels The Weeknd to strive for growth, success and the finer things of life.”
